The Incredible Ford F-150 Legacy

Although the Ford F-150 dates back to the mid-1970s, the Ford F-Series goes back all the way to 1948. The earliest F-Series models used a single digit to indicate their size and weight ratings, while the second generation introduced in 1953 changed things to triple digits and introduced the Ford F-100, F-250, F-350, and more. For decades afterward, the F-100 was the entry-level offering for Ford’s full-size trucks and remained an incredibly popular option. In 1975, during the sixth generation of the F-Series, the Ford F-150 was introduced between the starting F-100 and the more powerful F-250. It proved incredibly popular, and the F-100 was canceled following 1983, making the F-150 the new king of the road.

Since then, the Ford F-150 has remained a popular and innovative truck, providing drivers with amazing experiences behind the wheel. The seventh generation of the F-Series ran through the mid-1980s, with an eighth generation going from 1987 to 1991 and a ninth generation following that until 1996. Throughout all these years, the F-Series became first the top-selling truck in the US in 1977 and then the bestselling vehicle overall in 1981. Those are remarkable achievements, but even more astounding is that it has never lost these titles in the many decades since gaining them. More than 40 million Ford F-Series trucks have sold over the years, marking a milestone that few other trucks can even imagine.

For the 2004 model year, an 11th generation for the F-150 and F-Series kicked off, with a 12th generation following that for the 2009 model year and a 13th generation for 2015. A 14th generation of the F-150 launched for 2021, and this truck looks better than ever with a gorgeous and powerful exterior, a refined and sophisticated interior, and tremendous power packed under its hood. At this point, one thing is clear: no matter what the future of the auto industry might have in store for all of us, the F-Series and the F-150 will be a part of it, leading the way with the stalwart muscle and refined designs we have come to expect decade after decade.
